Sliding Application Description
Surfaces that appear to be smooth possess certain waviness and surface finish conditions, or micro surface roughness. When these sliding surfaces are exposed to movement without lubrication, resulting in a high coefficient-of-friction and premature wear and/or scoring. When liquid lubricants are utilized, equipment has to operate at a high enough speed to allow the creation of a hydrodynamic film, to separate the sliding surfaces. In the case of maintenance free designs, the sliding elements are lubricated with a solid lubricant, the solid lubricant provides lubrication over the full contact surfaces, by filling in the micro surface roughness, and only allowing a wear-in condition to occur, while providing lubrication to both of the mating contact surfaces, even under high load conditions.
